ExxonMobil Lets You Use Apple Pay to Blow Yourself Up at the Pump

March 9, 2016

ExxonMobil announced that it will start accepting Apple Pay as a form of payment at approximately 6,000 gas stations in the United States. The transaction can be made using the free Speedpass+ app without the customer getting out of the car. The question is…how many people are actually going to stay in their car and not diddle with their phone at the pump? This is one time when technology can actually kill you. The next time you go to a gas station, read the warning signs that tell you to shut off your car, don't smoke, shut off your cellphone, etc. The reason the warning signs exists are to tell you that any open flame or device that can cause a spark will actually hurt you. The last I checked, a smartphone is an electrical device that is NOT certified to be used in hazardous areas.

I can't believe that the world's biggest oil and gas company is actually creating an environment that is extremely dangerous for its customers. I can just see the lawsuits across the country when some idiot drops his iPhone at the pump and blows up the gas station. The sad news is that others will be hurt and not just the dummy with the phone.
