Forgot Your Windows Password? Reset It

February 20, 2018

Techviral posted some ways to reset your Windows password in the event you forgot it. The methods are used for the locally stored password and not for your logon credentials in a domain environment. The first method is to reset your Microsoft Account online. Of course you would have had to have stored your password in Microsoft Online first. The process is pretty simple and the details are in the post. Basically, you use some other device to access your Microsoft account and select the 'I forgot my password' option. Another option is to boot Windows to a command prompt to execute specific commands to overwrite the sethc.exe file temporarily with cmd.exe. Following a reboot you will launch a command prompt and enter a net use command to reset the password.
