Free Ransomware Protection from Acronis

January 29, 2018

It may be a marketing scam, but it is hard to argue with free. According to the Register, Acronis has released a free, standalone version of its backup product. One of the most effective methods to deal with ransomware is to make sure you have a good backup. The free Acronis product can be used along with your existing backup solution. According to the post, "Acronis says the software uses behavioural heuristics enhanced by machine-learning models, which are generated by analysing hundreds of thousands of malicious and legitimate processes in Acronis's Cloud AI infrastructure." You get 5GB of free cloud storage too, but that may not be enough for a lot of users. I wouldn't solely count on the Acronis product to protect you from ransomware attacks, but it is certainly another option to backup your data.
