Java’s Coffin Almost Nailed

January 28, 2016

Oracle has finally announced that Java's days are numbered. It's not dead yet, but will be deprecated in the next developer release. It really doesn't matter what Oracle does since darn near every browser is pulling plugin support. Even Microsoft's Edge browser doesn't support plugins. Only Internet Explorer 11 is supporting plugins. The big problem are vendors that have web applications requiring Java. Apparently, the US Patent Office requires Java for its filing system. Cisco's GUI administration tool for some of its products also require Java. We'll still need to keep a machine around with an old browser version and Java plugin until vendors provide applications and administration tools that don't require Java.
