Nuance Killed the Swype Keyboard for Android and iOS

February 22, 2018

Say it isn't so. I'm a big fan of the Swype keyboard and love how it works. Nuance (the maker of Swype) has decided to stop development and support of the Swype keyboard and focus on other products. Nuance stated, "The core technology behind Swype will continue to be utilized and improved upon across other Nuance offerings – and integrated into our broader AI-powered solutions – most notably in Android-based keyboard solutions for our automotive customers." Swype is no longer available on Google Play or the App Store. If it is already installed, you can still use the app as normal. Tech support will only be available for the next few months.

The keyboard swipe feature is built into new Android phones as a result of Swype's popularity. It is not built into iOS, but there are a lot of alternatives available.
