Office on Android and iOS Devices is Now Free
November 12, 2014
There have been all kinds of reports about the recent announcement concerning Microsoft’s Office offering. The announcement means that Office is now free for iPhones, iPads and other mobile devices. Unfortunately, not all of the Office capabilities are available in the free version. For more advanced features, you’ll have to get an Office 365 subscription. The best source I found for identifying what you could and couldn’t do with the free Office app is available in a post at PCWorld.
Why would you care? If you are a business user of Office, you wouldn’t. The now free version of the Office app is only applicable for the home, personal and educational market. If you are a business user, the Office 365 subscription for Business and Business Premium already includes the ability to use Office on mobile devices. However, if you already paid for a home or personal Office 365 subscription, Microsoft is offering pro-rated refunds under certain conditions. If your subscription of Office 365 Home or Personal is being used in your business, you’re violating the licensing agreement and it’s probably not a good idea to ask for a refund.
