OneDrive Can Protect Your Computer

Cloud storage is a wonderful thing. It's a great way to back up your information offsite. Microsoft OneDrive now has the ability to protect the contents of your Pictures, Desktop and My Documents folders. You can configure OneDrive to synchronize the folders to the cloud just like a regular OneDrive folder. The good news is that the data will synchronize across all computers that you use.

The feature isn't enabled by default, but it's pretty easy to configure. Click the cloud shaped OneDrive icon in your notification area. Go to "more" and then "settings." Click on the "Auto Save" tab and click the "Update folders" button. If you don't see the "Update folders" button, Microsoft says your account is not eligible for Folder Protection yet. Check back later as Microsoft slowly rolls out the feature. Assuming you're eligible, you will be prompted to "Set up protection of important folders." Unfortunately, you can only select Desktop, My Documents, and/or Pictures. Click "Start Protection" and you're good to go.

You may get an error stating that OneDrive can't protect a particular folder because it contains an Outlook PST or a OneNote notebook. You'll have to move those files to another folder to get rid of the error.
