Password Managers for Business

September 29, 2015

As I’ve mentioned previously, passwords are not dead and will be with us for the foreseeable future. The key is to have complex passwords (multi-factor authentication too if available) and a different password for each website or application logon. We are finally at the point where everyone should have a password manager. A password manager stores all of your passwords in an encrypted vault, which is unlocked with a master password. That means you only have to remember a single, strong master password to unlock the vault. I personally use eWallet and synchronize the vault between my computer and smartphone. I prefer to control my own vault and not send data to the cloud.

My solution is good for me, but not for a managed business solution. There are products that are more appropriate for business use and can integrate with Active Directory. As with most business solutions, centralized management is a key factor. Administrative reports and compliance control make these password managers ideal for business environments. Take a look at 10 password managers for business as listed on Dark Reading.
