Replace Your Asus Router with a Secure Device
February 25, 2016
Asus has settled its lawsuit with the FTC and is now subject to 20 years of audits. Apparently, wireless routers made by Asus were pretty insecure and exposed user's data to being easily hacked. The devices had fairly weak default admin passwords and other vulnerabilities to let the bad guys in without a lot of work. One of the worst items discovered was an ineffective "check for updates" button, which didn't actually check for updates. As a user, you would expect that a method to update the router code would actually work. Not so with the Asus product. I wouldn't trust any Asus wireless router at this point and recommend an immediate replacement.
