Time to Change Your Password – AGAIN!

May 22, 2014

The recent Heartbleed vulnerability has caused many of us to change our passwords in order to access web services that used OpenSSL. Yesterday, Ars Technica reported that eBay’s database was compromised – it contained encrypted passwords and other non-financial data. The data includes such things as names, e-mail addresses, home address, phone numbers and birth dates. Sounds like plenty of information to get a good start with identify theft. The attackers were able to access the corporate network of eBay using compromised login credentials of several employees.

Another day – another data breach. As a result of the database compromise, eBay is suggesting that all users change their passwords. It’s not a bad idea to change passwords on a periodic basis, but I would like to drive the schedule and not have some hacker determine it for me.
