Which Wi-Fi Encryption Should You Be Using?

How-To Geek has a post answering that very question. Over the years, several Wi-Fi encryption standards have been developed. WPA3 is the one you should be using today. As the post mentions, there are several implementations of the WPA3 standard. Most of us will come across WPA3-Personal while those in larger organizations may see the Enterprise implementation. Be warned that not all devices support WPA3. Older devices may only support the WPA2 standard.

As more users stay in a work-from-home world, home Wi-Fi networks should be upgraded to provide WPA3 encryption. Perhaps it is a good time to consider a mesh network if you need to upgrade to WPA3? WPA2 is fine to use if that is your only alternative. ALL of your devices need to be compliant with the WPA2 standard as a minimum. Replace any device that cannot utilize WPA2 or WPA3 encryption. The older encryption standards of WEP and WPA should not be used as they are extremely weak and can be cracked with very little effort. While it may be convenient, turn off WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) while you’re at it to plug another security hole.
