Poor Repair Scores for Microsoft, Google and Apple Products

March 9, 2022

When you spend your hard earned money on hardware, you certainly want it to last and not shell out more bucks to keep it serviced. The Verge has a post calling out Apple, Google and Microsoft for making less repair friendly equipment than their competitors. Not a good thing. The referenced report is by the US Public Research Interest Group’s Education Fund and has an infographic that quickly shows comparisons between various vendors.

Laptops from Dell, Asus, Lenovo and Acer received a B grade for repairability. HP landed a C grade with Microsoft and Apple bringing up the rear with a D. Motorola cell phones achieved a B rating while Samsung got an average C grade. Google landed in the D bracket and Apple got bottom honors with an F. Pretty amazing that you pay a significant premium for Apple products and yet they can’t get better than a D rating.
