Don’t Use a Browser Password Manager

Browsers are so much more secure than they were several years ago. Even so, that doesn’t mean you should entrust your valuable authentication credentials to a browser password manager. PCWorld made the case for avoiding a browser password manager. Utilizing a browser password manager locks you into using that browser. In other words, if you use Chrome’s password manager, you won’t be able to retrieve credentials from a Firefox session.

Using a third party password manager brings along additional features browsers don’t provide. Third party password managers work across multiple platforms. Some provide the ability to share passwords with others. You can store other information such as passport data, credit card information, etc. The primary purpose of a standalone password manager is to protect your information. The browser password manager is just another feature. It doesn’t really matter which third party password manager you use. Just use one and not the browser function.
