Android Phones Unlocked Without a Password

November 15, 2022

You’ve heard it before. Our smartphones are nothing more than computers that happen to be able to make phone calls. They also contain a tremendous amount of data about us and our lives. That data should be protected from unauthorized access. Typically, our phones are locked with a password, PIN, biometric or some other method. Unfortunately, a security researcher has discovered a way to bypass the password on an Android device according to a BleepingComputer post. “Exploiting the vulnerability to bypass the lock screen on Android phones is a simple five-step process that wouldn’t take more than a few minutes.” Pretty scary.

The attacker needs physical access to the device in order to exploit the vulnerability. In other words, make sure you know where your smartphone is at all times. Google has a patch available to fix the problem. Android versions 10, 11, 12 and 13 should apply the November 7, 2022 security update.
