Microsoft Will Switch Office Pro Plus Users to Bing in Chrome Browsers

January 27, 2020

At the end of last week, the internet blew up with news that Microsoft will be changing the default search engine in Chrome to Bing for those that do new installs of Office ProPlus or when ProPlus updates. Needless to say, people are pissed, us included. Microsoft stated, "Starting with Version 2002 of Office 365 ProPlus, an extension for Microsoft Search in Bing will be installed that makes Bing the default search engine for the Google Chrome web browser." The change impacts users of the enterprise versions (E1, E3 and E5) of Office 365.

The good news is that most small businesses are not running the enterprise versions of Office 365 so their search engines will not get hijacked. Enterprises will have their hands full stopping the automatic switch and deflecting the wrath of their users.
