Message Recall for Office 365 Coming to Exchange Online

December 16, 2019

We've all seen it. Someone sends a message that they really didn't want to send, especially to a distribution list or a reply all that shouldn't have gone out. Then the sender requests a call back of the message. All the recipients get a notice that says the sender was an idiot and wants to recall the message. Now you really want to read the message and cancel the warning message.

Bleeping Computer reported that Microsoft will be rolling out the message recall feature to Office 365 users. "After its rollout to all Office 265 [sic] environments during Q4 2020, the Exchange Online Message Recall feature will allow users of Microsoft's cloud email to retrieve messages their recipients haven't yet opened regardless of the email client they use." I'm not a big fan of message recall and don't think it really works in most cases. Let's hope Microsoft "gets it right" with Office 365. At the end of the day, it is better to slow down and be more careful when you electronically send messages and avoid message recall altogether.
