LinkedIn Invites Spread Malware

July 25, 2019

It's a dangerous world out there. The bad guys are constantly trying to access our information for financial gain. SC Magazine reported that FireEye researchers have identified a recent phishing attack by cyberespionage group APT34 that attempts to distribute malware via LinkedIn. APT34 is masquerading as a member of Cambridge University to get victims to open malicious documents containing malware. Using LinkedIn invites is a clever tactic. Most users are suspicious of phishing attacks from unknown sources. I'm sure LinkedIn invites are more successful since it is not unusual to get those invites from people you don't know.
