Patch Your Wireless Presentation System

May 6, 2019

It’s not just about applying updates to your computer or mobile device. Your wireless presentation system may have vulnerabilities that need to be addressed as well. Threat Post identified critical vulnerabilities in Crestron, Barco wePresent, Extron ShareLink, InFocus LiteShow, TEQ AV IT WIPS710, SHARP PN-L703WA, Optoma WPS-Pro, and Blackbox HD WPS wireless presentation systems. Jacob Baines, researcher with Tenable, stated that all eight brands share the same underlying software that is developed by Barco’s subsidiary AWIND. “So what have we seen here? A resold platform that has different levels of patching across different vendors,” he said. “Slow patch deployment amongst the user base. Difficult to obtain firmware. Installations that expose the devices to the internet. And, finally, poor software development practices that left all the devices open to unauthenticated remote code execution.”

Update any of your electronic devices. Check if there is a firmware update for your wireless presentation system that fixes discovered vulnerabilities. While you’re at it, check for updates to your security system, IoT devices or any other system that connects to the internet.
