Bugs Found in WPA3 Wireless
April 11, 2019
Just when you thought there was a fix for the design problems of WPA2 Wi-Fi connections, researchers published a paper describing flaws in the latest version of Wi-Fi encryption. WPA3 was developed to address the technical shortcomings of WPA2 protocol, which is considered to be insecure and vulnerable to the KRACK attack. The early implementations of WPA3-Personal have revealed weaknesses, allowing an attacker to recover Wi-Fi passwords by abusing timing or cache-based side-channel leaks.
The Hacker News reported on various aspects of the discovered flaws. The researchers “reported their findings to the WiFi Alliance, the non-profit organization that certifies WiFi standards and Wi-Fi products for conformity, who acknowledged the issues and are working with vendors to patch existing WPA3-certified devices.” Just when you thought you were safe, someone finds a reason to rain on your parade. Thankfully, we should have a rock solid Wi-Fi encryption protocol by the time there is widespread deployment of WPA3.
