Add Notes to Saved Passwords in Google Chrome

February 23, 2022

As reported in a Bleeping Computer post, Google is testing a new feature allowing users to add notes to saved passwords in the Chrome browser. “This feature will allow users to edit an existing saved password to add additional information, such as email addresses associated with the account, security questions/answers, or other information that may be required when logging in or using the site.”

The real question is…why are you saving passwords in a browser to begin with? Browsers are designed to render web pages. It is NOT a core function for them to act as a password manager. It’s bad enough to choose to store passwords in a browser and now users want to further help attackers by adding security question answers, MFA recovery codes and other information to make it easier to have their accounts compromised. Use a password manager to manage your passwords instead of a browser. You’ve heard the words before – use the right tool for the job.
