Advice for Placement of Mesh Wi-Fi Nodes
April 6, 2023
More and more devices need a Wi-Fi network to operate properly. We use our home Wi-Fi networks for all sorts of IoT equipment including smart TVs, video surveillance, smartphones, garage openers, smart thermostats, laptops, iPads, and even our cars. Installing a mesh Wi-Fi network increases the speed and coverage of your wireless network using multiple nodes. Placement of those nodes makes a difference in how fast your network operates and how far the network will reach. Do you have cables to interconnect each of the nodes or do they “talk” to each other over the airwaves? How-To Geek has a post with advice for optimal placement of your mesh nodes.
- Overlap Mesh Node Coverage
- When In Doubt, Raise Them Up
- Avoid Outside Walls
- Aim for Line of Sight Placement
- Keep Your Mesh Nodes in the Open
- Address Coverage Issues with Additional Nodes
Don’t forget that each node is going to need electricity. You may need to find an extension cord if there is not an outlet nearby. Follow the advice in the post and you’ll be much happier with your mesh network.
