Android Apps Sending Encrypted Traffic

December 4, 2019

According to a post on Bleeping Computer, Google has reported that 80% of all Android apps are now using Transport Layer Security (TLS) to encrypt their network traffic as of October 2019. This is a good thing. Google has been pushing Android developers to utilize encrypted traffic with their apps as they communicate over the Internet in order to provide better security and privacy. If the app directly targets Android 9, the percentage increases to 90%. To make it easier for app developers to use encrypted traffic in their apps, the latest version of Android Studio will now warn them if apps are using a potentially insecure Network Security Configuration. Let's hope the number gets much closer to 100% in the next few months.
