Automatic Updates for Zoom Desktop

November 30, 2021

Zoom is constantly working on feature updates and fixes for its popular video meeting application. During the height of the pandemic, it was not unusual to get multiple updates in a single week. Besides updates to fix security vulnerabilities, updates bringing new features are not available unless you update your client software. Bleeping Computer reports that Zoom will not automatically install those updates for you. No more remembering to click a few menu choices to force an update.

Your next update will bring along the automatic update feature. By default, Zoom will be configured with a ‘slow’ setting for update installation. Apparently, using the ‘Fast’ setting will allow you to try the newest features quicker. The Zoom information message states that the ‘Slow’ setting gives you “fewer updates and more stability.” Let’s hope that ‘Fast’ doesn’t mean you have an unstable product. You can totally disable automatic updates by going to Settings -> General and unchecking the Automatically keep Zoom up to date option.
