Best Practices to Secure a Mac

June 1, 2023

Just like other technology devices, you should tweak the configuration of your Mac to make it more secure. TechRepublic has a post with eight best practices for securing your Mac.

  1. Keep your software updated
  2. Enable the firewall
  3. Disable automatic login
  4. Use strong passwords
  5. Use two-factor authentication
  6. Encrypt your data
  7. Disable automatic file sharing
  8. Consider Lockdown Mode

Most of these best practices should also be applied to a Windows machine. While Lockdown Mode is specific to a Mac, you can accomplish a similar effect in a Windows environment. As a minimum, make sure you apply patches in a timely manner, utilize multi-factor authentication and require entry of logon credentials to access the device.
