Change Your Default Search Engine to DuckDuckGo

July 27, 2022

We really don’t know what information software is capturing about our activity. Facebook got caught with its pants down with the Cambridge Analytica debacle. Users have complained for a long time about getting targeted ads from their browser activity. To help protect your privacy, CNET recommends switching over to DuckDuckGo for your default search engine. I agree. Some of the cited reasons are:

  • Stop online trackers from spying on you
  • You’ll see fewer ads
  • Websites should load faster
  • Your search history isn’t stored
  • Your search results won’t be influenced by your browsing history

DuckDuckGo has been criticized for giving some preference to Microsoft as a result of its partnership agreement. Nothing is perfect. I’ll take blocking the majority of trackers over perfection.
