Create a Windows 10 Shutdown Icon

February 19, 2020

Initiating an orderly shutdown in Windows 10 takes a few clicks. Specifically, you need to click three times to shut down a Windows 10 computer. Normally, you would click Start, then the Power icon and select Shutdown. Tech Viral has instructions to reduce the amount of clicks to two.

The steps are pretty simple:

  1. Right click on the desktop and select New, Shortcut
  2. Within the Create Shortcut wizard, enter Shutdown.exe /s /t /00 in the location box
  3. Click Next and enter a name for the shutdown icon
  4. Select Finish

That's all there is to it. Just double click on the shutdown icon to execute the shutdown command. The post also has instructions for creating shortcut icons to perform various tasks such as Restart, Sleep, Hibernate, and Lock PC.
