Escape from Zoom Hell

March 16, 2021

As we continue to work-from-home, video conferencing has become a new way of life. Frankly, we’re all getting pretty tired of constantly being on camera, worried about our appearance and staring at a screen. Zoom fatigue is very real. I stumbled across a novel way to deal with video conference calls. The Verge reported on a website to helps you lessen your participation in video calls.

Zoom Escaper is a free web widget that provides audio excuses to leave a Zoom meeting. You download and install the free VB-Audio software, which routes your audio through the Zoom Escaper website. Don’t forget to change your microphone input to VB-Audio. There are several available audio effects to help you get out of meetings.

  • Urination
  • Construction
  • Man Weeping
  • Bad Connection
  • Echo
  • Wind
  • Dog
  • Upset Baby

Some effects are more believable than others. The Verge thinks the Upset Baby is the best excuse, but you do have to convince participants that you actually have a baby in the house. These audio effects may be a good addition to the filters and studio effects that are built into Zoom.
