Europe Requires USB-C by Fall of 2024

June 8, 2022

It appears like it’s another “about time” moment for Apple. CNET reported that Europe will require USB‑C charging for all phones and other mobile devices to include iPhones. “Not only will the rule apply to phones but also to tablets, headphones, e-readers, portable speakers, handheld games consoles and digital cameras. At a later date, it will apply to laptops too.”

Apple has been in the crosshairs of the EU for many years by refusing to change from its proprietary Lightning connector. The majority of Android users have had USB-C connectors for some time so the ruling won’t have much impact there. Apple has already introduced USB-C for some of its products. Perhaps the EU will drive some consistency in the marketplace to include Apple.
