Free Web Version of Photoshop Being Tested

June 16, 2022

In case you haven’t noticed, pretty much everything is moving to the cloud. Using browser-based applications is nothing new. The Verge reported that Adobe is currently testing a freemium version of Photoshop in Canada. Basically, the version is scaled back with some limited features. “Adobe’s goal is to use the web version of Photoshop to make the app more accessible and potentially hook users who’ll want to pay for the full version down the road.”

A huge advantage for a web version of Photoshop is the ability to run on Chromebooks, which are widely used in schools. Maria Yap, Adobe’s VP of digital imaging stated, “I want to see Photoshop meet users where they’re at now. You don’t need a high-end machine to come into Photoshop.”
