Get Smart About WPA3
September 1, 2020
Wi-Fi security couldn't be more important than today with everyone working from home. The next generation of Wi-Fi security has evolved to include the WPA3 specification. CSO Online is here to help with a post listing the eight things you should know about WPA3.
- WPA3 certification is now required for all Wi-Fi devices
- WPA2 devices will interoperate with WPA3
- WPA3 has a mode for individual users
- WPA3 has a mode for organizations
- WPA3-certified devices will have the latest security protocols
- Rules against password reuse particularly important with WPA3 devices
- WPA fixes shortcomings in WEP
- WPA3 development is ongoing
Bottom line…upgrade your wireless router to WPA3 as soon as you can. Since WPA3 certification is now required for all new devices, it should be a lot easier to find a model of hardware that meets your needs. Let's hope software developers distribute updates for Wi-Fi on computers and phones to take advantage of the enhanced security of WPA3.
