Get Smart About WPA3

September 1, 2020

Wi-Fi security couldn't be more important than today with everyone working from home. The next generation of Wi-Fi security has evolved to include the WPA3 specification. CSO Online is here to help with a post listing the eight things you should know about WPA3.

  1. WPA3 certification is now required for all Wi-Fi devices
  2. WPA2 devices will interoperate with WPA3
  3. WPA3 has a mode for individual users
  4. WPA3 has a mode for organizations
  5. WPA3-certified devices will have the latest security protocols
  6. Rules against password reuse particularly important with WPA3 devices
  7. WPA fixes shortcomings in WEP
  8. WPA3 development is ongoing

Bottom line…upgrade your wireless router to WPA3 as soon as you can. Since WPA3 certification is now required for all new devices, it should be a lot easier to find a model of hardware that meets your needs. Let's hope software developers distribute updates for Wi-Fi on computers and phones to take advantage of the enhanced security of WPA3.
