Google Chrome Drops Windows 7 Support in 2023

October 25, 2022

Computer security is a big thing these days. Having said that, why are so many people still running an unsupported operating system? Microsoft stopped supporting Windows 7 back in 2020, but apparently there are at least 100 million machines still running it. it’s bad enough to be using an insecure operating system, but users will add an unsupported browser to the mix next year. The Verge reported that Google will release the final version of Chrome to support Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 next year. That last version is Chrome 110 and scheduled to be released on February 7, 2023.

Even though the Chrome browser will still work once support ends, users will significantly increase their attack surface by having an unsupported browser running on top of an unsupported operating system. It’s time to upgrade to Windows 10 or Windows 11 now and avoid the open invitation to be attacked.
