Google Pixel 6 Has Great Battery Life

October 20, 2021

Google held a virtual event yesterday to announce the latest version of its Pixel phones. How-To Geek has a post describing some of the details about the new Pixel models. One of the big news items is the battery life for the Pixel 6 and the very affordable price when compared to the competition. These days Samsung and Apple phones have blown through the $1,000 or more price point. Google has set the starting price of the Pixel 6 at $599 and the Pixel 6 Pro at $899. Battery life is reported to be 30+ hours on a single charge and fast charging gets you to 50% in about 30 minutes.

The Pixel is built upon Google’s own Tensor processer instead of chips from other suppliers. Besides the core processor, custom hardware also includes Google’s Titan M2 security core. Sabrina Ellis, VP of product management at Google, said “We made Titan M2 even more resilient to advanced attacks like electromagnetic analysis, voltage glitching and even laser fault injection. And it’s been proven through independent security lab testing. Titan M2, Tensor security core, and our new open source Trusted Execution Environment give Pixel the most layers of hardware security in any phone.”

Android Police reported that you will only get three years of Android OS updates. Security updates will be for five years, but don’t count on the Pixel being your final smartphone purchase. While Google may provide OS updates beyond three years, budget for a replacement after the security updates stop.
