iPhone Users – Protect Your Data from Thieves

June 6, 2023

Smartphones just happen to be small computers that have the ability to make a phone call. At least that’s how most people use them. Mobile phones are used for a multitude of purposes and store a lot of personal data. Protection of that data should be top of mind. If you are an iPhone user, Lifehacker has a post with 10 security settings to protect your personal data.

  1. Set a longer passcode
  2. Enable Find My
  3. Move away from iCloud Keychain
  4. Use your Apple Watch to lock the iPhone
  5. If your phone is stolen, enable Lost Mode
  6. Limit access to features from the Lock Screen
  7. Set an additional lock for apps with sensitive data
  8. Use Screen Time restrictions to good effect
  9. Put a passcode on your SIM card
  10. Enable lockdown mode when you’re in unsafe places

Some users may feel that several of these settings get in the way of using their phone. There is always a tug-of-war between convenience and security. Ditching Keychain and using a separate password manager is good advice. Don’t forget about enabling MFA everywhere it is available, which should have been one of the items on the list.
