Mac Users Beware: RIP Native LastPass App
January 30, 2020
The Verge reported that Mac users have a little more than a month to shut down the native Mac LastPass app and convert to the replacement web app. LastPass has announced that it will no longer support its native macOS app after February 29, 2020. Apple made changes to Safari 12 in 2018 that were designed to push developers to offer browser extensions through native Mac App Store apps instead of the Safari Extension Gallery. Rather than update the native Mac app, LastPass decided to remove support for the native app entirely.
The replacement web app will be "built with technologies shared with our other LastPass apps," thereby making it easier to maintain its apps across multiple platforms. Some features will no longer be available with the replacement app such as system wide hot keys. Supposedly, you will still be able to use the native app after February 29th, but it "will no longer be supported or receive security updates."
