New Version of Winamp Available for Download

August 4, 2022

Believe it or not, there is more to life than streaming music over the internet. Back in the day, users “ripped” songs from an optical CD to the MP3 file format. An MP3 player was then used to put together playlists and play back those ripped songs. Winamp was one of the most popular MP3 players when development stopped in 2013. In October 2018, version 5.8 was leaked online, forcing developers to release it on the Winamp.com website. After four more years of development, BleepingComputer reports that a new release candidate is now available.

We’ve been loyal Winamp users for years. We have gigs of MP3 files, which we can play non-stop for days without a single repeat. Winamp 5.9 RC1 Build 9999 doesn’t really contain many changes except for getting the code base running on Visual Studio 2019. Now that the base code has been updated, developers can work on adding more features.
