New Windows 10 Version Available Now

May 27, 2021

Besides applying patches to all of your application software, you should also patch your operating system and update to new versions as they become available. Ars Technica posted the availability of the latest Windows 10 version. Windows 10 21H1 is available now. According to the post, “The new update offers three new user-facing features—improved Windows Hello support for systems with multiple cameras, an improved version of Windows Defender Application Guard, and improvements to the Group Policy Service which allow faster group policy updates for remote workers.”

The update doesn’t appear to have anything major included. Facial recognition is improved with Windows Hello support for multiple cameras. We wouldn’t recommend even using facial recognition as an authentication method due to its ease of being bypassed. There are improvements to security via Application Guard, but most users won’t even notice a difference. Admins will appreciate the improvements to Group Policy propagation, especially for remote workers.

Even though the operating system improvements appear to be minor, you should still update and prepare for the major update coming in October.
