Optimize Mesh Router Placement

May 19, 2022

More and more of us are looking to improve our Wi-Fi networks, especially if we are working from home. One big improvement is to install a wireless mesh system to increase connection speed and coverage. Mesh networks are different than a traditional single router Wi-Fi network. How-To Geek has a post to help you avoid some of the typical router placement mistakes people make when shifting over to a mesh network.

  • Placing Your Mesh Router in the Same Old Location
  • Placing the Nodes Too Close Together
  • Placing the Nodes Too Far Apart
  • Placing the Nodes Against Outside Walls
  • Placing the Nodes Behind Radio-Absorbing Materials
  • Placing the Nodes Too Low

Generally, you want to put the nodes near the center of your home in an elevated position. That may not be possible for every installation. The other consideration is proximity to an electric outlet, which may limit your choices even further. You may want to consider installing a Wi-Fi analyzer app to measure signal strength and speed as you experiment with different node placements.
