Security Gifts for the Super Paranoid
December 10, 2019
It's that time of year when we all try to think of an appropriate gift for someone that has everything. I stumbled onto a ZDNet post that has some pretty good ideas. There are a few really expensive items in the list, some we even use in our forensics lab. Here's the short list.
- Mic-Lock Microphone Blocker
- Lindy USB Port Lock
- Webcam Covers
- Faraday Fabric for EMI/RFID Shielding
- Panasonic Call Blocker
- Anti-Spy RF Scanner
- PortaPow USB Data Blocker
- Tableau Forensic SATA/IDE Bridge Kit
- Tableau Forensic USB Bridge Kit
- StarTech USB Flash Drive Duplicator and Eraser
- Destruct Hard Drive Eraser
- StarTech 4 Bay Drive Eraser
- Apricorn Aegis Padlock Fortress FIPS USB 3.0 Hard Drive
Some of the gifts are pretty practical and affordable. The higher end items will be a pretty big hit to your gift giving budget. I would recommend black electrical tape to cover your webcam instead of purchasing a cover. The tape is a lot cheaper and will stay in position better than most covers I have tried. You always have the option for a DIY gift and could fabricate a pretty fashionable tin foil hat.
