Should You Use an eero Wi-Fi Extender or an Echo Dot?

January 31, 2023

Let’s face it. We are very much a mobile society. It seems like darn near everything has wireless capabilities. That means our homes and offices need bigger and better Wi-Fi coverage. Some users have taken advantage of newer technologies like Wi-Fi 6 and mesh networks. The eero (now owned by Amazon) mesh networks are an excellent choice. Eero users now have an option to use an Echo Dot as a Wi-Fi extender. Review Geek has a post discussing the pros and cons of using an Echo Dot instead of an eero extender to supplement your mesh network.

There are some limitations if you decide to use the Echo Dot. The device only supports speeds up to 100Mbps and 5GHz Wi-Fi. While the speed may not be a killer for some, not supporting 2.4GHz connections may be. The Echo Dot will cost around $50 with the eero extender going for about $20 more. Unless you need to take advantage of a talking speaker, I would opt for the eero extender to get more flexibility and speed with your wireless network.
