Siri Will No Longer Default to a Female Voice

April 1, 2021

Since the beginning, Siri has defaulted to a female voice in North America. According to a TechCrunch post, that’s about to change. Apple is adding two new English voices for Siri in the latest iOS 14.5 beta version. When you set up Siri, users will no longer have a default setting and must select the voice you want to hear. The Apple statement reads, “We’re excited to introduce two new Siri voices for English speakers and the option for Siri users to select the voice they want when they set up their device. This is a continuation of Apple’s long-standing commitment to diversity and inclusion, and products and services that are designed to better reflect the diversity of the world we live in.”
