Which Cloud Storage Service Should You Use?

June 20, 2019

There are many options for using cloud services for storage of your data. Should your business be using OneDrive or Google Drive? As with most things in life, it depends. ZDNet has a good review of alternatives for cloud storage. Free cloud storage is fine for personal consumer usage, but look to a paid service for your business. Management is the main reason to use a paid service, where you can control such things as licenses, access, share permissions, etc.

If you are a sole proprietor or a small business, you can save a lot of money by using an Office 365 Home subscription. The plan includes licenses for up to 5 people, each of whom has 1 TB of OneDrive storage, a free Outlook.com address (custom domain email is not an option) and collaboration on Office documents for $99 a year. It would cost up to $900 for the same features using an Office 365 Business Premium plan. G Suite users have some limitations, especially if you work a lot with Microsoft Office files. Read the details in the ZDNet post to see which service is more appropriate for your business. I think you’ll find that an Office 365 plan will be more appropriate for most folks.

Finally, I won’t be posting next week so see you in July.
