Windows 10 Automatic Emptying of Recycle Bin
June 5, 2019
If your Windows 10 computer is running low on disk space, the Storage Sense feature automatically deletes files from your Recycle Bin if they are over 30 days old. Hopefully, you’re not one of those folks that uses the Recycle Bin as a storage area. The May 2019 (Version 1903) has Storage Sense enabled by default. It’s easy to disable Storage Sense or adjust the operation of the feature.
To adjust the settings go to Settings > System > Storage. You can quickly jump to the Settings window by pressing Windows+I. Once there, you can totally disable Storage Sense or adjust the various aspect of the feature. As an example, you can trigger Storage Sense when disk space is low or schedule it to run daily, weekly or monthly. Recycle Bin files can be deleted if they have been there 1, 14, 30 or 60 days. You can also control if files in your Downloads folder should be deleted.
